Just before the school year finished, we received pleasant surprise in our inbox. A team of students from Royal Roads University wondered if CECSS would be interested in teaming up on a project they were working on.
The students are currently engaged in a Venture Challenge Project where they are tasked to create an online store (Shopify) that will run for eight weeks, with all proceeds donated to a charity of their choice
The team felt passionate about food insecurity and wanted to work with a local elementary school. CECSS popped up on their radar after searching the CRA website for a suitable charitable organization closest to the university campus.
The team has subsequently launched Hot Lunch Heroes. Their mission is to create a better world through sustainable products and combat food insecurity in Canada. By curating a collection of eco-friendly items, they provide convenient access to quality and sustainable options for all.
All net profits from the webstore directly contribute to CECSS’s work, particularly our hot lunch program, as the students strive to raise awareness about food insecurity and promote sustainable solutions.
Thank you to the team at Royal Roads for thinking of us! Please take some time to browse Hot Lunch Heroes and consider making a purchase in preparation for the new school year!
HINT: The water bottle and travel mug look like a great idea as the school and Ms Masako are constantly reminding kids to make sure they have one! Cups borrowed from the kitchen always seem to go missing!
