With the success of the “Coffee in the Garden” events, the Courtenay Elementary Community School Society decided to take advantage of the warm weather and hold coffee in the afternoon called “Chill in the Garden.” The first get together took place on June 4.

Instead of warm drinks, the purpose of the afternoon event is get parents out of the school and into the garden to enjoy cold refreshments before picking their children up from school. The weather on June 4 could was a little blustery, but it didn’t deter 22 parents from stopping by and relaxing with a drink under the shade of the Japanese cherry tree in the garden.

CECSS served up iced coffee, iced tea, lemonade, and lemon-cucumber water. There was plenty to go around and it looked like much of it might go to waste, but once school was out at 2:30 and the kids caught whiff of what was going on, they quickly helped drink the remaining lemonade and iced tea while making trips to and from the playground.

The next Chill in the Garden will be on Tuesday the 11th, and the weather looks to be much hotter.

See you there!
