The Courtenay Elementary Community School Society is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a $3,000 grant from Peninsula Co-op. The funds will go toward building a new garden shed for the primary-side garden adjacent to the visitor parking lot.

Thanks to a partnership with Lake Trail Community Education Society and the Healthy Families Program of Comox Valley Families Services Association, Courtenay Elementary’s garden has sprung back to life after being unattended during the COVID-19 pandemic.

If you’ve been to the school recently, you will have noticed a small garden space next to the visitor parking lot.

With the revival of the school garden last year, a new garden area was also added. This area is part of a plan for a larger outdoor learning area that will consist of garden space, two concrete benches (the slabs have already been laid), a sandbox, and a covered outdoor learning space that will eventually occupy much of the space between the visitor parking lot and the primary side playground equipment.

CECSS is excited for the outdoor learning plans for the school and is extremely grateful for the generous support of Peninsula Co-op! The school district will be tasked with building the shed, and we hope it happens soon! Stay tuned!
