CECSS Holds Vision Boarding Workshop

Thu, 04/11/2019 - 21:55

On Wednesday, April 10, the Courtenay Elementary Community School Society, in cooperation with the Comox Valley Lifelong Learning Centre, held the first of three vision boarding workshops in the school kitchen. As there was also cross-country running being held this day, the first workshop had only two participants, but it made for an exceptionally relaxed and focused workshop.

Facilitated by Amy Cadden, Literacy Outreach Coordinator of the Comox Valley Lifelong Learning Centre, the theme of the workshop was for students to create a poster of their dreams for the future. Fueled by a few freshly-baked cookies that they were able to "liberate," the kids spent some time thinking of what they wanted to create while flipping through old magazines in search of images to use to illustrate their ideas.

Once they knew what they wanted to create, much of the rest of the workshop passed in a focused silence, punctuated by a few laughs, as the kids clipped images and arranged their posters. (It's amazing how focused they can be when you give them scissors and glue and encourage them to cut stuff up.)

The next workshops are on April 17 and April 24. Parents are welcome to join this fun event!

One of the students just happened to be of Grade 2 age, and given the size of the workshop, we were not going to say no. We invite all Grade 2 students to join in next week!
